What language is spoken in Brazil?

Portuguese is the primary language in Brazil, and although many people study English or Spanish in school, not everyone in the city can speak either language. To help you navigate the city better, we recommend learning a few common phrases linked below. Click here.

Do I need a voltage adapter?

Yes, we recommend packing a converter! Brazil has two associated plug types: C (two round pins) and N (three round pins). It operates on a 127/220V supply voltage and 60Hz.

Is Rio de Janeiro safe?

Like any major city, Rio de Janeiro has areas with varying degrees of safety. To avoid pickpocketing and scams, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and be street-smart when navigating heavily populated and touristy areas. We recommend avoiding wearing overly flashy clothing or jewelry and using your pockets to store your phone and other valuable items. During the night, avoid walking alone or in deserted areas and utilize Uber to get you to your destination, especially after a night of good food and drinks.

By following these tips, you can focus on soaking up the vibrant culture, indulging in delicious food, and creating unforgettable memories in this beautiful city.

How do I get around in Rio?
We recommend sticking to reputable transportation companies, such as Uber, when you want to get around the city instead of hailing taxis on the street. Many of the hotels you will be staying in also have reputable car service companies that you can utilize and pre-book if you are looking for private transportation. Visit our “Getting to Rio de Janeiro" page to find more details about private car and shuttle services that we recommend!
